The term Rock Art means prehistoric images made on rock, either by drawing, painting, cutting or carving. The rock art of Alta contains a significant collection of carvings giving us insight into people's lives and their conception of the world over 6000 years ago.

The carvings of Alta are special in their variety. The most common motifs are animals such as reindeer and moose, but motifs such as bear, bird, fish, boats and humans are also to be found. Many of the carvings are very well preserved.
