Safeguard ecosystems
The structure, functioning, productivity and diversity of marine ecosystems will be maintained or restored and they will provide a basis for value creation through the sustainable use of natural resources and ecosystem services.
Guidelines and measures set out in the integrated management plans for Norway’s sea areas that are implemented within the specified time limits

Good ecological and chemical status
All coastal waters will have at least good ecological and chemical status or, if appropriate, good ecological potential, by 2021.
Proportion of coastal water bodies in Norway that satisfy the environmental objectives of the Water Management Regulations

Safeguard marine species
The extinction of threatened marine species will be halted and the status of declining species will be improved by 2020.

MInimise the effects of human activities
By 2015, the cumulative effects of human activities on coral reefs and other vulnerable ecosystems that are affected by climate change or ocean acidification will be minimised, in order to maintain ecosystem functioning as fully as possible.

Prevent adverse impacts of alien species
Substantial adverse impacts on biological or landscape diversity in connection with the import and release of alien organisms will be avoided. Eradication, containment or control measures will be initiated or implemented for particularly invasive alien organisms that are already established in the Norwegian environment.
Number of action plans drawn up and implemented to deal with invasive alien organisms

Number of cases where genetically modified organisms have been found in quantities exceeding the permitted limit values
Reduce Norwegian inputs of nutrients and particulate matter
Norwegian inputs of nutrients and particulate matter to coastal waters that are affected by eutrophication or sediment deposition will be reduced to a level that ensures good chemical and ecological status by 2021.
