Are we moving in the right direction?

According to Statistics Norway seven out of ten exercise at least once a week. Fast walking is the most popular activity. Eight out of ten take walking trips in the forest or in the mountains.

Large numbers of Norwegians take part in some form of outdoor recreation. The pattern of activity was rather stable between 1997 and 2007. Nevertheless, there are signs of change. Activities such as hiking, swimming, and cross-country skiing are still popular. The picture is less clear for activities that involve harvesting natural resources.
