Operational discharges of oil will not result in unacceptable harm to health and the environment, or result in a rise in background levels of oil or other environmentally hazardous substances in the long term.
Total oil discharges from activities on the Norwegian continental shelf have risen from 1993 to 2005. In 2006 the emissions decreased with 420 tonnes because of a reduction in discharges of produced water. The discharges of produced water were reduced by 438 tonnes. At the same time discharges of displacement water increased by 15 tonnes.
