Are we moving in the right direction?
Norway’s NOx emissions rose steeply until 1986. From 1986 to 1992, there was a drop in emissions as a result of the introduction of stricter exhaust standards for road vehicles and an economic downturn. After 1992 emissions rose until 1999. From 1999 emissions have decreased.
Norway's NOx emissions totalled 189 000 tonnes in 2010. This is 33 000 tonnes higher than the emission ceiling for set out in the Gothenburg Protocol.
Emissions will probably be reduced in the coming years, partly because stricter exhaust standards have already been adopted.
