The 24-hour mean concentration of sulphur dioxide (SO2) will not exceed 90 µg/m3.

Exceedances of SO2 limit

Are we moving in the right direction?

Emissions of SO2 have been reduced by more than 50 per cent in the period 1990-2002. The sulphur concentration in fuel and fuel oil has been substantially reduced. The concentration levels of sulphur dioxide in the largest towns are well below the national target. However, there are still exceedances due to point sources or transboundary pollution in some local industrial areas.
