The dispersal of ecological toxins from contaminated soil will be stopped or substantially reduced. Steps to reduce the dispersal of other hazardous substances will be taken on the basis of case-by-case risk assessments.
The Climate and Pollution Agency has identified more than 3500 properties where the soil is contaminated or there is reason to suspect pollution. By May 2010, 383 sites were identified as heavily contaminated (impact level 3).
Soil remediation has been accomplished for approximately 100 of the most seriously contaminated sites, and the need for soil remediation has been identified for almost 150 of the over 500 second most contaminated sites. Work is in progress to remediate the remaining sites.
The Climate and Pollution Agency is also making a list of sites that may be contaminated. The list will be based on the remaining potentially most polluting activities such as the galvanic industry and the dispersal of hazardous substances that have not previously been mapped. In addition to this, remediation of contaminated soil in child day-care centers is a special priority.
